Simple Joys
I’ve been surprised by so many moments of simple joys lately. I love that so much.
Had a pool party here this week and we won a prize :-) but the simple joy was talking to two little girls and their mom. Her and her husband own a pool business. They are so nice… one thing I like about living here is the rainbow of colors and religions and ethnicities, that it’s nice to interact with people villainize by our government and seeing that there are bad people in all groups but the majority are lovely. This is a middle eastern family, of which there are many here, and their daughters were pure joy. 7 and 9 years old but very small as their mother is very petite. Small little voices, bold, intelligent, curious, very interested in how many children we have and when they asked Josh who is his favorite friend is he replied that his sister is his favorite person. They loved that. When we were leaving they told Josh to tell his brother and sisters hi from them and to have fun with his favorite person. Omg! My heart cracked! My non existent uterus twitched! Tiny children in a huge world.
Three different times in the last week while swimming we were visited by animals that are not known to be friendly but mostly skittish…. One day two geckos came to the side of the pool, I love geckos and if they ever make their way into my home they get to stay until they move on to another adventure ( they are great for getting rid of mosquitoes!) they played there while we were face to face with them. Beautiful curious creatures!
Then one day we had a cackle, which is basically a crow, take a bath in the waterfall flowing into the pool. Close up he was a stunning pure black with iridescent blue, green and purple feathers, he took two baths and stood at the side of the pool with us inches from him while two cardinals visited as well, male and female. They came so close and I’ve never seen a cardinal before!! So beautiful! They make a clicking sound to communicate. I was mesmerized by these bird friends. Old tradition says that when a cardinal appears angels are near. They all three stayed for about 30 minutes to visit. Joy. Pure joy! As a side note, cardinals mate for life.
Then one day we had two lovely doves and four bunnies came to visit with us. The call of the dove is so calming and beautiful. The bunnies let us pet them. PET THEM! I seriously could have exploded with joy!!! Doves also mate for life!
And as always, my dear friends, the maiden flies showed up to land on us so that they could float around. So beautiful with their blue bodies. Tradition says they are our lost loved ones visiting. They also happen to be apex predators in the bug world. They have four wings that can all move separately for incredible flying capabilities. They remember faces!!! They know if you’re a safe place. They hunt unlike any other animal which is to not chase prey but to determine where prey is flying to and meeting them there instead. I’m going to get a tattoo of one.
And finally!! I fucking hit the jackpot on jewelry to resell. I mean, the deals I got on $100 pieces… $5! Some even less! And! I hit an Anthropology clearance of 50% off already reduced items and I bought two $100 hats for… $6 TOTAL! And some cute drinking glasses… we have one here on the island so I got home and did a happy dance!!! Sold a “ Starry Night” collectible bear for $75 and I paid $1.50 for the little guy! Happy Dance! I’m selling on four different sites now so it’s a lot of fun! Bought a label printer and mailing scale that I’m putting to good use! Joy!!
I hope that you all are having joyful moments too!!! We need them so much!
