Columbine

I have an upcoming video about the Columbine school massacre and it’s leaving me furious. That massacre happened close to 30 years ago and nothing has changed. One of the victims had said that she wanted to change the world, her death was fruitless. This many years later, school shooters still look up to those two boys, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. They want to be as famous or even more famous.

Our government has done exactly nothing to stop these shootings. No new gun laws. No mandatory school safety measures such as safe rooms or locks on doors requiring fingerprints, no bullet proof glass. Nothing. So, some schools might have a safety officer but in the case of of the Uvalde Texas shooter the safety officer ran away and the police department waited outside of the school for 77 minutes while the rampage carried on. They did arrest parents who were trying to break windows to get their children out which of course is an “obviously” when it comes to this country’s police forces. It was a parent who was a border patrol agent that got in.

A few years ago there was a mass shooting at an outdoor mall, like the one I live over, who killed babies in strollers and their parents and other children and adults. We’d just been there. It’s an outlet mall but there was a store where I bought my body oil. I’ve seen the video of the police officer who ran towards the shooting. I’ve seen the dead bodies, babies and adults. I saw him running past them while he was being shot at. He was a hero and per how the police are they put him on leave and investigated if he should or should not have taken the head shot he took to kill the gunman. They put him on trial. Wtf is wrong with that picture?! A couple of months later we went to the mall. I stepped over concrete sidewalks that once held the bodies of those blown to bits. My heart rate got so high that my Apple Watch alerted that I could be having a medical emergency. I’ve never been back.

When we go to concerts here or the Christmas tree lighting or the craft fairs I’m scared. We’re like fish in a barrel. We always sit behind these two large boulders along the creek but if the shooter came from any other angle there’s no chance of running away or anything else to hide behind. I shake the entire time. They do have a couple of “security guards” who aren’t allowed to carry guns, I asked them. Then what’s the fucking point?!

My husband conceal carries everywhere we go. I used to hate that and now I make sure he has a gun. Then I worry that if he were to ever, GOD FORBID, have to use that gun, that he’d make himself and therefore anyone close to him a target.

Early this month there was an active shooter in 6th street in Austin. We have been there so many times with our kids. My mi-ya called me crying and we were all in COLORADO! But it’s the what if’s that bring the terror.

This is a difficult video to he making.

So that’s my rant for the day.
